“The meanings evoked by touch are often unconscious or nonverbal, and they often manifest somatically and/or relationally before the client is able to articulate anything about them.” (Barstow, RUOP, p.81).
One of the most powerful and healing elements of the Hakomi Method is the ethical application of touch in a therapy setting. Touch supports access to the felt sense and wisdom in the body, can directly access the unconscious and can offer a direct experience of support for the client (missing experience).
Hakomi techniques using touch and the body, while adaptable to online environments through imaginal work, carry increased power and depth in an in-person environment. In person, these techniques offer a shortcut to deepening and transformation in a way that supports the organic and holistic unfolding of the client’s process.
Since the recent movement towards online training in Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy, many of our graduates have not had the opportunity to learn and experience the full potency of the formalized Hakomi somatic techniques (taking over, physicalizing, peace with gravity and other somatic explorations) and the actual use of therapeutic touch. This workshop will provide the opportunity to deepen your exploration of these somatic techniques through demos, practice, and supervision—and we think you will be blown away by the power and effectiveness of this work in person!
This on-the-ground experience will expand your skillfulness and capacity to attune and explore somatically and to experience the profound deepening this offers to the therapeutic process.
This workshop is for Hakomi graduates who have trained online, as well as those who would like to brush up on the use of these powerful somatic techniques.
