Embodied Intimacy: Addressing Sexuality in Hakomi Therapy

You’ve completed your Hakomi training or are deeply immersed in this powerful somatic-experiential approach. Now, you’re wondering—how does it apply to sexuality? Sexuality, as a vital yet complex part of the human experience, offers profound opportunities for personal and relational growth. However, it is often overlooked in therapy, despite research showing that many clients long for a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore their sexual concerns.

In this workshop, we’ll integrate experiential learning, mindfulness, and Hakomi’s core principles to explore intimacy, desire, and connection in a sex-positive, embodied way. You’ll gain practical skills for introducing the topic of sexuality with new clients and discover how mindfulness can be a powerful tool for cultivating a more vibrant, wakeful sex life.

Hakomi’s experiential techniques naturally support the exploration of sexual shame, fears, and desires, helping to uncover and transform unconscious patterns around intimacy. By centering on felt experience, practitioners can guide clients toward greater presence, attunement, and connection—qualities far more essential to fulfilling intimacy than any specific lovemaking technique.

Join us for this engaging workshop and expand your ability to help clients cultivate a deeper, more conscious relationship with their sexuality!

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Apply the Hakomi principles to cultivate a sex-positive, embodied approach to addressing sexuality in therapy
  2. Facilitate experiential exercises to access core erotic organizers and understand how they influence desire and connection.
  3. Use the skill of Response-agility to help clients stop-study-share-and adjust when they become triggered.
  4. Guide clients in using the internal observer to recognize and shift eros-inhibiting thoughts and conditioned patterns.
  5. Help clients befriend and integrate sexual shame as a doorway to deeper self-acceptance and relational intimacy.
  6. Bring eros-inhibiting couple dynamics “into the room,” revealing underlying beliefs and erotic wounds.
  7. Distinguish performance-driven sex from embodied intimacy while fostering curiosity, playfulness, and erotic energy as a source of vitality and self-discovery.
  8. Harness mindfulness as a tool to help clients cultivate a more present, fulfilling, and connected erotic life.
