ABOUT

Lorena Monda

Lorena Monda is a Certified Hakomi Therapist and a Senior Trainer for the Hakomi Institute.

She is the author of The Practice of Wholeness: Spiritual Transformation in Everyday Life, and a co-editor of Hakomi Mindfulness-Centered Somatic Psychotherapy: A Comprehensive Guide to Theory and Practice. Lorena has a Master’s Degree in Community/Clinical Psychology and is a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She has been a practicing psychotherapist since 1977.

Besides a deep appreciation for the core transformation and embodiment available through Hakomi Therapy, Lorena is committed to anti-racism, anti-oppression, collective liberation, and love. She has been a member of Zen Teacher Thich Nhat Hanh’s Core Community, the Order of Interbeing since 1993 and is also a certified qigong instructor. Lorena practiced Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 30 years before retiring to dedicate more time to Hakomi trainings. She was on the faculty of the AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine for 22 years, where she taught classes in Chinese Medicine and Psychology utilizing Hakomi principles and techniques.

Lorena did her first Hakomi workshop in 1986 and graduated from the Hakomi Comprehensive Training in 1989. She joined the Hakomi faculty as a teacher in 1993, became a trainer in 2004, and has been the lead trainer in multiple trainings in the US and Japan since 2006. Lorena introduced the ‘Systems that Shape Us Map’ to the curriculum in her Hakomi trainings, which explores the forces beyond the family—cultural, societal, and global—that shape the core beliefs we hold about ourselves, others, and the world. Currently, Lorena is passing on the lead trainer torch to the next generation of Hakomi trainers, through mentoring and consultation. She works in trainings in the Southeast, Pacific Northwest, Southwest, and Japan, has served on the Hakomi Institute Board of Directors, and is a founding member of the Hakomi DEI Action Group.
