This one-day workshop offers an experiential introduction to the fundamental principles and therapeutic perspective of The Re-Creation of the Self (R-CS), a psychotherapeutic approach developed by Jon Eisman.
At the heart of R-CS lies a unique perspective on the nature of Self and suffering: although we tend to experience ourselves as a single, continuous identity, our moment-to-moment experience is continually shaped by different neurologically embodied self states, each carrying its own perceptions, emotions, beliefs, and sense of self. We protect ourselves in difficult situations by fragmenting our innate sense of wholeness. Suffering arises as we become unconsciously identified with these limited or fragmented self states and mistake them for who we truly are.
Central to this process is the understanding that beneath these contracted states lies the Organic Self — an inherent dimension of vitality, wisdom, connection, and wholeness that has never been damaged or lost. As clients reconnect with their Organic Self, they can experience themselves and their lives from a place of greater embodiment, alignment, choice, personal truth, and connection.
In recognition of this, R-CS proposes a fundamental shift in therapeutic attention: rather than primarily focusing on the content of these states — their history, stories, symptoms, emotions, or problems — R-CS therapists help clients learn to recognize the underlying self states and shift out of the trance of identification with them.
